Have you ever heard about How Wheat Works? It is an interactive, online multimedia program that delivers a farm-to-fork education on wheat, enabling a better understanding of its nutritional value.
I’m sure many of us have eaten breads, all kind of pasta and all the different types of wheat food. But I’m sure not many of us are aware of wheat goes through – from the time its seed is planted until it appears on your plate as bread, pasta, tortilla and more. The interactive game will let you learn all there is to know about the most-consumed grain in America.
Through the interactive program that is filled with factual information, vibrant video and 3-D animation and fun, educational activities, you will plant, harvest, mill, bake and virtually eat your wheat. Simply pick the wheat product you want to create and track its path from the wheat field to the table.
Each of the four phases takes just a few minutes to complete. Approximately one day from the completion of a phase, you will receive an email prompting you to return to the site and continue to the next phase. (Now this sounds like farming in Farmville, huh!)
For each person who completes this program, the Wheat Foods Council will donate two pounds of flour to OperationHomefront.net. The Operation Homefront is a non profit organization that provides emergency assistance and morale to American troops, to the families they leave behind, and to wounded warriors when they return home.
They will donate up to 90,000 pounds of flour, which is about 2,143 bushels of wheat and it can be used to bake 1,440,000 blueberry muffins.
These donations are made possible by their members at ADM and ConAgra, two of world’s largest millers.
So let’s we all be generous this Holiday season, donate your time and let it be exchanged into wheat that could feed people who really need them.
